Job summary

Syensqo is seeking a Team Research Scientist in the United States to lead research and innovation projects for Specialty Polymers. You will work with customers, commercial teams, and manufacturing to develop new materials and ensure timely industrialization of formulations.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Chemistry/Polymer Science and strong technical/problem-solving abilities, with comfort in coordinating across functions and with customers. Competitive salary and benefits are offered.

  • Master's or PhD with work experience preferred in Chemistry, Engineering, Material or Polymer Science, or a related field.
  • Field experience in compounds development and experience with high-performance polymers.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable interacting with multiple functions and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research and innovation projects supporting product development for Syensqo Specialty Polymers.
  • Develop new materials aligned with customer requirements and innovative property profiles.
  • Collaborate with Key Customers, Commercial Teams, PAM, and other R&I teams.
  • Develop products (via extrusion and reactive extrusion) to sustain existing business and drive growth.
  • Support PAM and Manufacturing to maintain existing solutions for various product families and applications.
  • Work with Product Realization to ensure timely industrialization of new compounds and formulations.
  • Expand knowledge of polymeric/reinforcement/additives availability and their impact on material performance.
  • Document development work in technical reports, seminars and patent applications for knowledge sharing.

We are looking for:

Team Research Scientist

We count on you for:
  • Act and promote a strong safety culture within the team and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Be responsible for leading research and innovation projects supporting product development for Syensqo Specialty Polymers.
  • Developing and characterizing new materials aligned with targeted customer requirements, developing materials with new and innovative property profiles to accelerate growth
  • Collaborate closely with Key Customers, Commercial Teams, Product Asset Management (PAM), other R&I teams to:
  • Develop new products (via extrusion and reactive extrusion) that sustain existing business and drive future growth
  • Support PAM and Manufacturing to maintain existing solutions for various product families and applications.
  • Work closely with Product Realization to ensure timely and effective industrialization of new compounds and formulations in Manufacturing plants.
  • Expand technical knowledge of polymeric/reinforcement/additives availability, technical attributes, and their impact on compounded materials performance.
  • Stay informed about and understand the intellectual property landscape in experimental areas, including reviewing industry literature, filing invention disclosures, and collaborating with patent attorneys on new filings, defending existing patents, and challenging competitive patents with sound scientific data.
  • Systematically document the development and reasearch work in the form of technical reports, seminars and patent applications to ensure good knowledge sharing and retention.
You will bring:
  • Master's or PHD with work experience preferred in Chemistry, Engineering, Material or Polymer Science, or a related field.
  • Preferred qualifications: field experience in compounds development, and experience with high-performance polymers.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
  • Plan and schedule activities to meet customer needs and delivery timeframes.
  • Ability to influence people both with and without direct authority.
  • Comfortable interacting directly with multiple functions across the organization and with customers.
Skills:

You will get:
  • The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $98,720 to $123,400 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations
