Position Summary

This role supports research activities focused on the maintenance and study of malaria parasite life cycles using mosquito and mouse models. Responsibilities include maintaining and monitoring mosquito and mouse colonies, conducting infection-related procedures and observations, collecting and organizing research data, and consolidating data from multiple sources into standardized datasets for analysis and reporting. The role contributes to ongoing research projects in collaboration with faculty, researchers, and laboratory personnel and performs research support activities necessary to advance project objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment.
  • Experience handling insects and/or invertebrates, including mosquito colony maintenance.
  • Experience handling and monitoring laboratory mice in a research setting.
  • Knowledge of microscopy, PCR, or related methods used to assess infection levels.
  • Experience organizing and managing research data for analysis.
  • Proficiency with R, Python, or similar data analysis tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record research data.

Basic lab demands-sitting, standing, squatting, lifting more than 10 pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Infecting mice with Plasmodium parasites and monitoring infections in mice for subsequent mosquito infections. The position may also involve maintaining colonies of mice in-house. (30%)
  • Assist with maintaining colonies of mosquitoes and monitoring infections as needed. (30%)
  • Generating a unified repository from existing datasets for statistical and mathematical analysis for incorporation into publications. (30%)
  • Other lab duties as assigned. (10%)
