Job summary

About the Job

The Lillehei Heart Institute (LHI) at the University of Minnesota is dedicated to advancing cardiovascular research. This is a full-time role for a Research Scientist at the Lillehei Heart Institute, located in Minneapolis, MN. The candidate will conduct advanced cardiovascular research, design and optimize experimental protocols, analyze complex datasets, and contribute to scholarly publications. Emphasis is placed on artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches applied to digital data and multi-omics data. Additional responsibilities include mentoring students, collaborating with faculty, preparing research reports, and presenting findings at academic events.

Job Responsibilities
  • 70%: You will be responsible for implementing new projects and conducting data analyses. From these projects, you will be expected to prepare manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and present at national/international scientific meetings.
  • Conduct AI and machine learning analyses on ECG raw signal data, clinical, laboratory, omics, and other digital data, integrating across these modalities
  • Lead literature reviews and identify new scientific directions
  • Develop and design experiment or analytical approaches
  • 15%: You will be expected to collaborate with other team members working with Dr. Chen in regard to other projects.
  • Perform statistical analyses for projects led by other team members
  • Mentoring lab student workers
  • 15%: You will also be expected to assist with research grants submitted by Dr. Chen.
  • Perform statistical and AI/machine learning analyses to obtain preliminary data to support grant submissions

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Highly qualified and motivated investigator (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD)
  • PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields is desirable with one or more years of research training
  • Experience in artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches applied to digital data and multi-omics data
  • Experience in multi-omics analysis
  • Experience using R or Python
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The starting salary for this position ranges from $66,000 to $86,000 based on education and experience.

Time Appointment: 100% appointment

Position Type: P&A Staff
