Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking Registered Nurses for PRN (as-needed) work to support diabetes technology studies. Responsibilities include blood draws from indwelling catheters and fingerstick samples, following study procedures in both inpatient and on-site settings.

Shifts vary and training will be provided; position is wage-based and limited to 1500 hours/year, not eligible for leave or other benefits, with hours up to 40 per week.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• 1 year of relevant experience.
• Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia; AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Job description

The Center for Diabetes Technology at the University of Virginia is seeking Registered Nurses to work on a PRN (as-needed) basis. This role involves performing blood draws from indwelling catheters and via fingerstick on study participants, as well as adhering to research study procedures and protocols in both inpatient and on-location settings. Study-specific research training will be provided.

Shifts may include day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours and are scheduled based on study needs. Employees will work on an as-needed basis (PRN) and will not exceed 40 hours per week.

Hourly rate is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements

• Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
• Experience: 1 year of relevant experience required.
• Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

Physical Demands

• Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping.
• Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 50-100lbs.
• May be exposed to chemicals, radiation, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
