Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital is hiring a Research Nurse Coordinator to oversee the implementation and conduct of human subject research projects. You will apply nursing knowledge to develop care plans, perform evaluations, blood draws, EKGs, informed consent, and patient screening across disease areas.

The role includes regulatory activities, data entry using electronic data capture systems, and collaboration with investigators and central research administration to maintain protocol

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the AHA or ARC.
  • Four years of clinical experience and two years of research experience.
  • Basic computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee implementation and conduct of human subject research projects in adherence to protocol requirements.
  • Develop data, monitor plans, communicate regulatory documents, and report adverse events.
  • Serve as liaison between investigators, study personnel and research administration.
  • Assess subjects, perform nursing assessments, document findings and notify physicians of abnormal results.
  • Coordinate ongoing care, discharge planning and patient safety within the research setting.
  • Perform telephone triage and nursing procedures; manage informed consent and screening.
  • Maintain standards of care per agency policies and assist with equipment as required.
  • Assist with study design, protocol development and budget considerations.

As a Research Nurse Coordinator, you will help us achieve this goal by overseeing the implementation and conduct of various human subject research projects. In this role, you will use your nursing knowledge to perform a variety of related tasks, including care plan development, condition evaluations, telephone triage, documentation and more. You will care for research patients across various disease specialties and perform blood draws, EKGs, informed consent, patient screening and closeout visits. You will also assist with regulatory activities and data entry using electronic data capture systems.

A caregiver in this role works a hybrid schedule Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with one day onsite each week and up to 5% travel.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Coordinate the implementation and conduct of research projects ensuring adherence to research protocol requirements including timely completion and
  • Complete and communicate regulatory documents, develop data, monitor plans, report Serious Adverse Events as the occur and complete FDA and sponsor forms.
  • Serve as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, outside study personnel and central research administration offices to assist in protocol interpretation, enrollment and safety questions.
  • Assess research subjects, complete nursing assessments, document findings in research subject records and notify the physician of abnormal findings.
  • Establish a care plan in collaboration with the research subject, family and research team and coordinate ongoing care.
  • Identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning as appropriate.
  • Perform telephone triage, nursing procedures and treatments.
  • Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care consistent with CCHS policies & procedures.
  • Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical research protocol.
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP.
  • Direct, coordinate and participate in the evaluation & supervision of nursing care provided to research subjects, establishing patient care priorities and delegating nursing activities according to the patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities.
  • Conduct and document the informed consent process.
  • May assist PI with research study design and development of the research protocol.
  • May assist with research project budget development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Four years of clinical experience
  • Two years of research experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum Annual Salary: $63,250.00

Maximum Annual Salary: $96,467.50

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
