Job description

Research Laboratory Technician I

We are seeking a dependable and motivated part‑time staff member to manage the daily operations of the Zebrafish Core Facility at Creighton University.

Job Description

Under general supervision in the Coffin Lab, you will provide a wide variety of moderately complex laboratory testing and technical lab support for a research facility.

Responsibilities include routine animal care, such as feeding schedules, system and alarm checks, basic health assessments, and water‑quality monitoring, as well as day‑to‑day facility operations, including routine system maintenance, communication with Animal Resource Facility and veterinary staff, supply ordering and inventory management, and assisting with troubleshooting. The role also involves caring for additional equipment within the Core and helping new users become familiar with facility procedures.

This position is vital to ensuring system health, animal welfare oversight, quarantine practices, and regulatory compliance. Because new hires typically require several weeks to months to reach independence, comprehensive training will be provided and immediate full coverage is not expected.

We are looking for a detail‑oriented, communicative individual who is enthusiastic about contributing to a high‑quality aquatic research environment.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, documentation, maintaining laboratory notebooks, analyzing data, and reporting using complex statistical computer software.
  • Associate degree or 2 years of higher education.
  • 1 year of laboratory experience.
