Job description

The lab specialist senior position is a 12 month term limited position that will direct daily operations of the research laboratory, including mentoring post-doc, graduate student, and undergraduate trainees. The specialist will plan and conduct experiments; develop new lab protocols and procedures to advance research goals of the laboratory; analyze data; and participate in writing manuscripts and grants. He/she will be a prominent representative of the lab for both internal and external collaborators.

Responsibilities*
  • Daily operations of the lab, including expertise in specialized equipment and functional management of trainees on experimental procedures.
  • Develop and optimize new research protocols to introduce new methods and technologies into the laboratory. Ensure efficient handoff of these protocols to other lab members.
  • Plan and perform experiments based on goals of the laboratory formulated in partnership with the lab director.
  • Work closely with existing internal and external collaborators and identify new collaborators based on scientific goals of the lab.
  • Analyze data and plan future follow up experiments.
  • Present research at internal meetings and external conferences.
  • Participate actively in writing manuscripts and grants.
Required Qualifications*
  • BS in an Engineering field
  • 5+ years of experience with imaging in cancer biology
  • Expertise with MATLAB computer code for image processing and analysis, including single cell imaging and tracking
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and physics-based computational models for cell behavior
  • Experience with cell culture procedures, including 2D and 3D environments with cell lines and induced pluripotent cell lines
  • Past experience contributing to writing grants and manuscripts
  • Established track record of functional management of undergraduates and graduate students
  • Experience with microfluidic technologies
  • Experience working with live-cell fluorescence and bioluminescence microscopy;
  • Lie animal bioluminescence imaging
  • Experience with animal procedures
  • Ability to design and perform flow cytometry experiments
  • Experience with automated Western technology (Jess or Wes).
Desired Qualifications*
  • PhD in BS in an Engineering field. Use of Overleaf software for manuscript preparation; experience organizing lab inventories
