Job summary

Harvard University is seeking a Research Infrastructure System Administrator to build, configure, and maintain platforms and databases in support of biomedical research. You will work on Omero, Globus, Redcap, Starfish, ELNs, and contribute to automation, monitoring, and secure access for researchers.

You’ll join the RTI team, engage with HPC workflows, and implement containerized services using Docker/Podman, Open OnDemand, and DevOps practices.

Qualifications

  • Two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Linux-based systems administration in a research or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with research-oriented platforms and services (e.g., Globus, ELNs, Open OnDemand).
  • Experience administering relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres) and web-hosted environments.
  • Working knowledge of containerization (Docker/Podman), orchestration, and configuration management.
  • Ability to develop and maintain scripts and APIs using Python or Bash.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, and support research applications and platforms (e.g., Omero, Globus, Redcap, Starfish, ELNs).
  • Administer and maintain research databases (MySQL, Postgres) and web-hosted systems linked to computing infra.
  • Develop and support APIs, license servers, and researcher portals for data access.
  • Support user access platforms including Open OnDemand and HPC account workflows.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring/alerting for RTI platforms.
  • Develop/deploy services using containers, orchestration, and DevOps tools.
  • Collaborate with researchers and IT to support evolving needs.
