Job summary

LSU AgCenter in Louisiana seeks a maintenance/farm worker at the Reproductive Biology Center in St. Gabriel. The role involves operating tractors and related equipment, maintaining facilities, and supporting farm operations on site.

The position requires at least one year of relevant experience or six credit hours in agriculture, with a 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Mon-Fri schedule and some nights/weekends. Salary is based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience in the care of animals; the general care of crops, shrubs, or plants; or farm-related equipment and machinery operation; OR
  • Six semester hours in an agricultural field.

Responsibilities

  • Operates tractors, lawnmowers, batwing rotary cutters, disk and cultipacker, hay cutters, hay rake, seed broadcaster, and equipment for chemical applications.
  • Maintains property and fences; sprays fence line weeds, upkeep of fences, repairs gates or fences, builds enclosures, maintains drainage ditches, and mows pastures and lawns around shops and buildings.
  • Makes minor adjustments and repairs to farm equipment, lawn mowers, ATVs and tractors.
  • Assists with maintenance in shop areas, shade structures and main building.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in the care of animals; the general care of crops, shrubs, or plants; or farm-related equipment and machinery operation; OR

Job Duties

Job Duties and Other Information

  • Operates complex farm machinery equipment such as tractors, lawnmowers, batwing rotary cutters, disk and cultipacker, hay cutters, hay rake, seed broadcaster, and equipment for chemical applications. (30%)
  • Maintains property and fences. Sprays fence line weeds, upkeeps hard and hotwire fences, repairs damaged gates or fences, builds new enclosures on property, maintains drainage ditches, mows pastures and lawn around shops and buildings. (30%)
  • Makes minor adjustments and repairs to farm equipment, lawn mowers, ATV’s and tractors. (20%)
  • Assists with maintenance in shop areas, shade structures and main building. (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Position-Specific Details
  • Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
  • Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday. Some nights and weekends may be needed.
  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Location: Reproductive Biology Center, St. Gabriel, La.
  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
