Ideal candidates will have a 4-year apprenticeship with Journeyman certification or 8 years journeyman experience, plus an associate degree or trade school credential in electrical technology.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 4-year state approved apprenticeship with Journeyman Electrician certificate or 8 years minimum journeyman experience with 2 years of related technical instruction.
• Associate degree or equivalent in electrical technology or related field.
• Familiarity with electrical codes (NEC), NFPA 70E, PPE, OSHA standards.
• Ability to read electrical blueprints and layouts; proficient with basic computers.

Responsibilities

• Inspect electrical power systems for safe operation and code compliance.
• Install and repair wiring, fixtures, power equipment, and components per schematics and blueprints.
• Install and repair control and distribution apparatus (motors, relays, switches, panels).
• Connect power supply wiring, cables, and conduits as per diagrams.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical circuits and equipment using testing instruments.
• Test circuit continuity to ensure safety and compatibility of components.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
• Operate facility overhead cranes and lifting equipment as needed.

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky, Ohio is searching for a Research Facility Electrician to perform a variety of journeyman electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy.

TFOME is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing engineering and technical services in the areas of aero/space propulsion and power test facilities to NASA Glenn Research Center.

• May provide electrical inspections for the safe condition and operation of electrical power systems within a research or test facility as required.
• Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
• Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
• Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
• Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
• Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
• May operate facility overhead cranes, bucket trucks, man-lifts, forklifts, and portable cranes.

This individual must have

• Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship program with a Journeyman Electricians certificate and 4 years of additional electrical industry work experience, or 8 years minimum of equivalent journeyman level electricians experience, with 2 years of related technical instruction training that is verifiable by training records or certificates.
• Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or graduate from a Vocational Trade School program in Electrical Technology.
• Familiarity with electrical codes, and knowledge of the proper use of the NEC Handbook, NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety PPE, and OSHA Standards.
• Familiarity with electrical systems, tools, equipment and instruments.
• Ability to read electrical blueprints, drawings, and layouts, and use computers.
• Good attention to detail and follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
• Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of workflow.
• Must be self-motivated and a team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
