Job summary

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Research Epidemiologist, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

  • Designing, planning and initiating epidemiologic studies, surveys, and investigations. Participating in various aspects of the study or survey design process, including conducting a search or review of the existing literature and data in a specialty area.
  • Identifying and analyzing public health issues and their impact on public policies or epidemiological studies or surveys. Providing advice and assistance in the development and implementation of procedures, methods and strategies for obtaining and using scientific data.
  • Authoring or coauthoring manuscripts or technical reports reflecting the results of the research and arranges for publication. Presenting the results of research efforts in appropriate scientific journals or at scientific meetings. Preparing comprehensive reports of national surveillance system analyses.
  • Initiating and maintaining contacts with epidemiologists, health scientists, engineers, physicians, statisticians and other research personnel in government agencies, academic institutions, and industry. Assisting and providing guidance within the organization, and other DLOs within NIOSH, either directly or by instruction, concerning the research project.
  • Basic Qualifications: Bachelor\'s or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Designing, conducting, and leading epidemiologic research studies related to occupational respiratory health outcomes.
  • Analyzing complex epidemiologic data using advanced statistical methods (e.g., regression modeling, longitudinal analysis) and statistical software (e.g., SAS, R).
  • Developing, managing, and disseminating findings, by preparing scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including industrial hygienists, physicians, and other public health professionals to investigate work-related lung disease.
