OpenAI is seeking a Research Engineer/Research Scientist for the Personal AGI, North Stars team in San Francisco. This role drives the next generation of AI-enabled experiences, focusing on tool-use, connectors, and instruction following to bridge power users and the average consumer.

You will combine ML engineering and research, writing robust evals, creating training data and reward signals, and implementing model improvements across the research stack.

Qualifications

• Strong ML engineering skills and research experience.
• Ability to work across the training stack, from evals to data and models.
• Comfort debugging a large ML codebase.

Responsibilities

• Own and pursue a research agenda to improve model capability and performance.
• Collaborate with research and product teams to optimize customers' models.
• Build robust evaluations for tracking modeling improvements.
• Design, implement, test, and debug code across the research stack.
