Job summary

The University of Maine's Advanced Structures and Composites Center seeks a Research Engineer II to execute engineering R&D projects advancing materials, composites, and large‑scale additive manufacturing. You will design experiments, analyze results, and contribute to reports, proposals, and presentations.

You will mentor undergraduate researchers, collaborate with staff, and stay current with emerging technologies to help maintain leadership in interdisciplinary research.

Qualifications

  • Required: BS in Mechanical, MET, or Structural Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of professional experience.
  • Advanced coursework or equivalent in advanced composites, finite element modeling, engineering design, and advanced mechanics of materials.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experimental test campaigns and analyze data.
  • Develop innovative solutions for engineering challenges in materials, composites, and manufacturing.
  • Prepare technical reports, research proposals, and presentations.
  • Mentor undergraduate researchers and collaborate with research staff.
