Job summary

ARCTOS a DCS company seeks a research scientist/engineer to lead efforts in understanding ceramic matrix composites under extreme hypersonic and space conditions. You will bridge experimental mechanics with multiscale computational modeling, developing novel testing frameworks and non-traditional modeling paradigms to overcome legacy limitations.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance.
• MS/PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in engineering analysis, scientific computing, or computational mechanics.
• Experience supporting DoD, aerospace, or other configuration-controlled programs.
• Expertise in computational modeling and mechanics of materials (continuum, fracture, damage).
• Experience creating FEM models for heterogeneous or architected materials (Abaqus/ANSYS/COMSOL).
• Scripting and scientific computing proficiency (Python, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran).
• Experience with DIC, NDE, and advanced characterization methods.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Government sponsors and teams to develop advanced modeling strategies beyond classical homogenization.
• Develop testing methodologies for complex CMC architectures beyond legacy standards.
• Correlate high-resolution characterization data with finite element models and failure predictions.
• Establish physics-based design margins and life-prediction methodologies.
• Assess manufacturing pathways influence on defect distributions and structural integrity.
• Present findings at conferences and brief senior stakeholders on progress and impact.
