Job summary

ARCTOS a DCS company seeks a highly motivated research scientist or engineer to join our AFRL/RE Composite, Ceramic, Metallic & Materials Performance Division. You will lead efforts to develop predictive models for ceramic matrix composites under extreme hypersonic and space conditions.

The role blends experimental mechanics with multiscale computational modeling, developing novel testing frameworks and non-traditional approaches alongside materials scientists and processing experts.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or related field.
• 4 years of experience in engineering analysis, scientific computing, digital engineering, experimental thermomechanical testing, or computational mechanics is desirable.
• Experience supporting DoW, aerospace, or other configuration-controlled programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Formulate and implement advanced computational modeling strategies that move beyond classical continuum homogenization.
• Develop and execute novel mechanical testing methodologies for complex CMC architectures.
• Correlate high-resolution material characterization data with FE models and failure predictions.
• Establish progressive design and life-prediction methodologies with physics-based margins.
• Collaborate with materials processing teams to assess how manufacturing pathways influence defects and variation.
• Present findings at technical conferences, author reports, and brief senior stakeholders.
