Job summary

Bosch Corporate Research is seeking a Research Engineer to perform applied atomistic-scale materials science and contribute to next-generation Bosch products. You will use classical simulations and emerging AI techniques to move from concept to quantitative modeling in alignment with engineering cycles.

Engagement with experimental efforts and cross-disciplinary collaboration with Bosch teams, national labs, and academia will be essential.

Qualifications

  • PhD in materials science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, biophysics or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in atomistic simulation and computational materials science across DFT, MD, Monte Carlo, phase-field, multiscale modeling and HPC environments.
  • Proficiency in programming and the scientific Python ecosystem or equivalent tools.
  • Documented experience applying AI/ML techniques to scientific problems (active learning, Bayesian optimization, RL, automated workflows, autonomous lab systems).
  • Strong ability to conduct independent research, formulate questions, analyze data, and develop prototypes or PoCs.
  • Evidence of research impact via peer-reviewed publications, patents, or open-source contributions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across technical disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct applied research in materials science at the atomistic level.
  • Apply conventional atomistic methods and AI tools to derive insights on materials behavior and optimization.
  • Identify and collaborate with external partners and colleagues.
  • Communicate results via internal presentations, reports, publications, and IP disclosures.
  • Contribute to an interdisciplinary, collaborative research environment across materials science, physics, chemistry, AI, and software.
  • Create an AI-based framework enabling Bosch engineers to apply atomistic simulation effectively.
