Job summary

The City University of New York School of Medicine is seeking a Research Data Librarian to support data management, data-related scholarly communications, and evidence synthesis across the research lifecycle.

Reporting to the Chief Librarian, the role collaborates with faculty, researchers, staff, and students, develops data management plans for grants, promotes open science practices, and maintains researcher profiles in Pure. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Consult with faculty, researchers, staff, and students on research data management best practices throughout the research lifecycle; assist researchers in developing data management and sharing plans for grant proposals and sponsored research projects.
• Advise researchers on data organization, documentation, metadata standards, storage, preservation, sharing, and reuse; provide guidance regarding compliance with federal, institutional, and publisher requirements related to data management and data sharing.
• Develop instructional materials, workshops, and online resources related to research data management and data literacy; collaborate with institutional stakeholders to promote responsible data stewardship and open science practices.
• Monitor emerging trends, technologies, policies, and standards related to research data services.
• Administer and maintain researcher profile platform (Pure or another similar system); configure system settings, workflows, integrations, and user permissions; monitor platform performance and coordinate upgrades, testing, and troubleshooting.

Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. The School of Medicine is currently seeking a Research Data Librarian. Reporting to the Chief Librarian, this position provides expertise and support for research data management, data-related scholarly communications, and evidence synthesis activities at the CUNY Medicine. This position serves as a key member of the library's research support team, partnering with faculty, researchers, staff, and students throughout the research lifecycle. The librarian assists researchers in developing data management and sharing plans, promotes best practices for research data stewardship, and supports compliance with funder and institutional requirements. In addition, the position provides library instruction, reference services, and collaborates with research teams on systematic and scoping reviews.

Research Data Librarian duties include but are not limited to the following responsibilities:

• Consult with faculty, researchers, staff, and students on research data management best practices throughout the research lifecycle; assist researchers in developing data management and sharing plans for grant proposals and sponsored research projects.


• Advise researchers on data organization, documentation, metadata standards, storage, preservation, sharing, and reuse; provide guidance regarding compliance with federal, institutional, and publisher requirements related to data management and data sharing.


• Develop instructional materials, workshops, and online resources related to research data management and data literacy; collaborate with institutional stakeholders to promote responsible data stewardship and open science practices.


• Monitor emerging trends, technologies, policies, and standards related to research data services.


• Administer and maintain researcher profile platform (Pure or another similar system); configure system settings, workflows, integrations, and user permissions; monitor platform performance and coordinate upgrades, testing, and troubleshooting.


• Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and system administrators to ensure system reliability; manage researcher profile data, including publications, grants, patents, awards, etc.; perform data cleanup, deduplication, validation, and authority control.


• Integrate data from databases and research identification systems such as ORCID, Crossref, and Scopus.


• Partner with faculty, clinicians, researchers, and students on systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and other evidence synthesis projects; design, execute, and document comprehensive literature search strategies across biomedical databases; contribute to review methodology, search reproducibility, citation management, and reporting standards.


• Serve as a co-author on systematic reviews and other scholarly publications when contributions meet accepted authorship criteria; provide bibliographic instruction, reference and research consultation services; create guides, tutorials, and instructional materials supporting evidence-based practice and information literacy.


• Participate in library planning, assessment, committees, and strategic initiatives; engage in professional development and scholarship; contribute to the profession through presentations, publications, and service activities.


• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Librarian or designee

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Library Science, Master’s in Library and Information Studies, or closely related discipline from an ALA-accredited institution; a second graduate degree is required.


• Experience conducting advanced literature searches in biomedical and health sciences databases.


• Knowledge of research data management principles and practices.


• Demonstrated ability to provide instruction and consultation services.


• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.


• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders in a research-intensive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting grant-funded research and developing data management and sharing plans.


• Experience participating in systematic reviews, scoping reviews, or other evidence synthesis projects.


• Familiarity with NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy and other federal funding agency requirements.


• Knowledge of data repositories, metadata standards, and data sharing practices.


• Experience with implementation of the Elsevier Pure product or a similar researcher profile system.


• Experience with citation management software and evidence synthesis tools.


• Experience in academic health sciences or medical libraries.


• Record of scholarly activity, including presentations, publications, or professional service.

Compensation

Medical Assistant Professor (Basic Science): $80,982 – $128,748

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
