Job description

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine (SoM) is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.

Department

The Department of Molecular, Cellular & Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) is a dynamic center of research and innovation, with faculty members leading active, NIH-funded programs in cutting-edge areas, including neuroscience, cardiovascular sciences, and drug discovery. Faculty in the department mentor doctoral students through CUNY Graduate Center programs in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, molecular and developmental biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. The MCBS Department at the CUNY School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Medical Professor (Basic Science).

Duties
  • Develop and maintain an independent, externally funded research program in artificial intelligence (AI), bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Conduct innovative research using large-scale biomedical datasets, including electronic health records (EHR), genomic data, medical imaging, and clinical trial data, to advance translational research and improve health outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty across the Departments of Molecular, Cellular & Biomedical Sciences, Community Health and Social Medicine, Clinical Medicine, and the Center for Advancing Translational Research and Health (CART), as well as with external academic, clinical, and community partners.
  • Develop computational methods, statistical models, and AI-driven approaches to address challenges in healthcare, medical diagnostics, healthcare access and utilization, and precision medicine, with an emphasis on reducing health disparities.
  • Secure extramural research funding from federal agencies, foundations, and other sponsors.
  • Teach and mentor medical students, graduate students, and trainees in areas related to AI, bioinformatics, data science, and biomedical research.
  • Contribute to the development of educational and training initiatives that strengthen AI and bioinformatics competencies among researchers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Publish scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Participate in departmental, school, and university service, including committee work, curriculum development, and other faculty responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or., M.D.,) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • 3-5 years of postdoctoral research experience and an emerging record of scientific publications
Preferred
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated application of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), or advanced analytical techniques to medical imaging, genomics, electronic health records (EHR), and other clinical or preclinical datasets.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data formats and standards, including DICOM, HL7, and other clinical data protocols.
  • Record of publications in AI/ML, biomedical informatics, healthcare analytics, or related journals and conferences.
  • Prior experience working in multidisciplinary academic or medical research environments.Experience with experimental design, grant proposal development, and scientific manuscript preparation.
Compensation

Salary Range: $80,982 – $128,748

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
