Research Coordinator - Women's Brain Health Research

Job Description

In this role, the successful candidate will independently coordinate and manage the day-to-day conduct of an NIH-funded research study on women's brain health (RF1AG098531) conducted at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The Research Coordinator exercises independent judgment and discretion in managing study operations, resolving protocol and regulatory issues, determining participant eligibility, and analyzing study data - serving as the primary point of accountability for the study's day-to-day scientific and operational integrity, under the general direction of the Principal Investigators.

Project

This NIH-funded project, led by Drs. Erika Raven and Jelle Veraart, focuses on improving women's brain health by identifying why the menopause transition may increase the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease. Using longitudinal neuroimaging, plasma proteomics, and detailed clinical assessments of a prospective cohort, the study examines how hormonal changes and menopausal hormone therapy influence brain aging and cognitive outcomes. The goal is to define sex-specific biomarkers and risk profiles that support earlier detection, more precise prevention, and clinically meaningful strategies to protect women's health across midlife and aging.

Study Coordination & Regulatory Compliance

• Independently manage the day-to-day operations of the study, exercising judgment to resolve protocol deviations, scheduling conflicts, and other non-routine issues as they arise, escalating to the PIs only when appropriate
• Interpret and apply IRB and sponsor requirements; prepare, submit, and track continuing reviews, amendments, and reportable events, determining the appropriate course of action for ambiguous or non-routine regulatory situations

Participant Recruitment, Screening & Eligibility Determination

• Independently review medical records and screening data against complex study eligibility criteria; exercise judgment on borderline or ambiguous cases and make enrollment recommendations to the Principal Investigators
• Lead the informed consent process, ensuring participants understand study procedures, risks, and rights; manage enrollment, scheduling, and long-term follow-up of a prospective cohort

Data Collection & Quality Oversight

• Coordinate and, where applicable, assist with MRI data collection, cognitive testing, and survey administration; select and adapt procedures to participant-specific circumstances (e.g., menopause status, scheduling constraints) within study guidelines
• Oversee blood sample collection, storage, and shipping logistics for the plasma proteomics component of the study, ensuring compliance with protocol and chain-of-custody requirements

Data Analysis, Reporting & Team Liaison

• Consolidate and analyze longitudinal clinical, imaging, and biomarker data; identify trends and data quality issues, and prepare summaries and recommendations that inform manuscript development and study reporting
• Serve as the primary liaison between the PIs, study team members, core facilities, and external collaborators, exercising discretion in coordinating cross-functional study activities

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of 2 years of clinical or human subjects research experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must demonstrate the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in coordinating study operations, resolving non-routine issues, and interfacing with participants, investigators, and regulatory bodies with minimal supervision. Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong time management, organizational, and analytical skills, are required.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred. Prior experience independently coordinating research protocols, and working with EPIC and REDCap, is preferred. Experience working in an academic medical center environment, and prior experience training or guiding junior research staff, is also preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York State Law on Salary Transparency in JobAdvertisements. The salary range for the full-time role is 65,000 - 75,000 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, and education.
