The Biomechanics Department of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is seeking talented candidates for a five-year NIH-funded research coordinator position. Our long-term goal is to predict and prevent loosening of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) implants, which is the second most common reason why knee replacements fail, and often manifests as progressive implant migration. In this project, you will be responsible for recruiting and ensuring the follow-up of 200 TKA patients for a prospective clinical study aimed at 1) defining early thresholds of at-risk migration, 2) relating migration to the load transfer between implant and bone, and 3) assessing the relative contribution of bone density and joint loads to implant migration.
You will integrate a multidisciplinary team of engineers, orthopedic surgeons, and biostatisticians.
Mentoring and training will be provided by the HSS Biomechanics staff in collaboration with orthopaedic surgeons from the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement service and staff of the Biostatistics Department. The goal of the fellowship is to provide the trainee with a broad, multidisciplinary experience.
Salary is competitive and will depend on the experience level of the candidate.
