Situated in the Center for Cancer and Immunology Research within Children's National Research Institute, the Research Center Associate Director of the Children's National Hospital Brain Tumor Institute (BTI) develops a research team and program to study pediatric brain tumors. Working with the Director of the Brain Tumor Institute, the Associate Director provides oversight and leadership in developing a sustainable neuro-oncology research program. The program aims to improve diagnostics and treatments for children with brain cancer. This position is 80% research under the Center's Directors.
As Medical Director of Neuropathology and Endowed Chair in Molecular Neuropathology, the faculty member provides leadership and oversight of neuropathological services in the Division of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, working with faculty and the Division Chief on diagnostic activities related to pediatric neurological diseases. The role also involves leading/supporting the Division's biorepository and research core services in collaboration with other divisions and institutes. This position is 20% clinical.
Reporting to the Research Center Director, the Associate Research Center Director leads and energizes the faculty and staff, building new initiatives and collaborations within and outside CNRIC. In alignment with the Center Director, they identify strategic priorities, provide leadership in research and education, oversee finances and administration, and foster faculty engagement and innovation. The role includes planning interdisciplinary initiatives, fostering collaborations with GWU School of Medicine and external partners, and developing relationships with funders and industry to translate research into societal benefits.
