Job Description

Under limited supervision, serves as the primary research leader for the Prairie View Algae Center of Excellence (PACE) and Center of Smart Agriculture Solutions (CSAS). Conducts and coordinates independent research and capacity building programs, activities of PACE and CSAS, and develops ongoing research and workforce training in collaboration with other algae-focused R&D led by PVAMU and external scientists. Salary is competitive and based on experience and accomplishments.

This position is funded by grants or restricted funds. Continued employment depends on the renewal of such funding.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, oversight, and management of PACE and CSAS, serving as the primary contact. Secures external funding supporting algae research and climate-smart solutions, publishes in peer-reviewed journals, and maintains visibility regionally, nationally, and internationally.
• Develops and supports PACE and CSAS within the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC), ensuring research compliance with university policies. Performs other duties as assigned by CAFNR leadership.
• Leads independent research in algae cultivation, harvesting, processing, storage, and applications such as feed, food, fuel, fertilizer, bioplastics, and ecosystem services like wastewater treatment.
• Coordinates lecturers and labs for the Applied Algal Agronomy class offered by CAFNR.
• Establishes research collaborations with PVAMU and external scientists, developing technologies for sustainable algae use and climate-smart commodities.
• Develops scalable systems for algae cultivation to support economic opportunities for limited-resource farmers in Texas and beyond.
• Participates in outreach programs, including field days, educational initiatives, youth projects, and community events. Prepares extension publications and surveys for stakeholders.
• Engages in college-wide activities, committees, and performs other duties as needed.

Required Education & Experience

• Ph.D. in Agriculture Technology, Biological Science, or related field.
• Six (6) years of relevant experience.
• Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and success in securing external research grants.
• Preferred: Leadership experience in algal research, biomass utilization, and downstream processing.
• Six (6) years in workforce development, education, and training, including curriculum development and grant acquisition. Proven mentorship skills.
• Six (6) years managerial experience, preferably in centers of excellence, corporate, industrial, or research settings.
