Job description

Contribute to research that improves workplaces around the world.

At Gallup, we study how organizations select, develop, and engage people to achieve exceptional performance. As a research associate, you’ll apply advanced quantitative and psychometric methods to large‑scale workplace datasets, helping shape Gallup’s workplace science on employee engagement, talent‑based selection, leadership, and organizational performance.

Why Research at Gallup

For decades, Gallup has helped organizations answer some of the most important questions about work: What drives employee engagement? What makes a great manager? How do organizations build thriving cultures? How can organizations identify and select people who will succeed?

The answers have inspired workplace practices around the world and informed some of Gallup’s most recognized research, products, and consulting services. As a research associate on workplace science, you’ll contribute to the next generation of discoveries.

Gallup’s workplace research is powered by resources few organizations can match:

  • Decades of research on employee engagement, talent‑based selection, organizational culture, wellbeing, leadership development, and employee experience
  • Access to unique historical and longitudinal workplace datasets that few researchers will encounter elsewhere in their careers
  • Opportunities to contribute to thought leadership, publications, client‑facing insights, and research that influence leaders around the world
  • Collaboration with researchers, consultants, and subject‑matter experts who are committed to turning evidence into meaningful workplace change
  • A culture that encourages curiosity, innovation, and exploration of emerging methods, technologies, and AI‑enabled approaches to research
What You’ll Do
  • Support and lead workplace research projects from scoping through reporting, including literature reviews, research design, data collection, analysis, and synthesis of findings
  • Conduct quantitative analyses using R, SPSS, Python, or similar tools, including descriptive analyses, regression, reliability analysis, factor analysis, item analysis, validation studies, and other advanced statistical techniques
  • Analyze Gallup’s large‑scale workplace datasets to identify what drives employee engagement, organizational culture, wellbeing, leadership effectiveness, employee experience, and talent‑based selection outcomes
  • Conduct qualitative research activities, including interviews, focus groups, cognitive interviews, thematic coding, codebook development, and synthesis of open‑ended responses
  • Develop and evaluate workplace assessments, surveys, interview guides, and research items, including measurement analyses, item review, and technical documentation
  • Translate research findings into technical reports, client‑ready presentations, articles, internal briefs, manuscripts, research summaries, and practical recommendations for leaders and organizations
  • Contribute to original research, thought leadership, and publications that influence how organizations think about work, management, and organizational performance
  • Leverage Gallup’s historical and longitudinal workplace datasets to explore emerging workplace trends and generate new insights
  • Explore and apply AI‑enabled tools and approaches that enhance research quality, efficiency, and impact
Who We Want
  • Analytical thinkers who explore complex data, identify meaningful relationships, and uncover the factors that shape workplace outcomes
  • Curious builders who enjoy creating research from the ground up, navigating ambiguity, and pursuing answers to important questions
  • Continuous learners who stay current with emerging research, challenge assumptions, and bring new ideas into their work
  • Effective communicators who translate research data into clear, compelling insights that educate clients and inspire action
  • Collaborative contributors who build strong internal partnerships and influence through expertise
  • Persistent achievers who take initiative, overcome challenges, and independently drive projects forward with accountability for quality and outcomes
What You Need
  • Master’s degree in industrial‑organizational psychology, educational measurement, quantitative psychology, organizational behavior, research methodology, or a related field (required). Ph.D. or ABD status in industrial‑organizational psychology, educational measurement, or a related field preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in workplace research, people analytics, psychometrics, workplace consulting, applied behavioral science, or a related field (required). Relevant graduate assistantship, practicum, internship, or research experience may be considered toward the experience requirement.
  • Experience conducting quantitative research and statistical analyses using R, SPSS, Python, or similar tools (required).
  • Experience with psychometrics, assessment development, assessment validation, selection research, or related measurement work (required).
  • Experience with multivariate statistics and advanced analytical techniques (required).
  • Knowledge of item response theory, classical test theory, adaptive testing, or related measurement approaches (preferred).
  • Experience conducting interviews, focus groups, cognitive interviews, or other qualitative research methods (preferred).
  • Experience using AI tools to improve research workflows, productivity, and insight generation (preferred).
  • A commitment to working on‑site at Gallup’s Washington, D.C., office at least three days per week (required).
  • Eligibility to work in the United States (required); this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.
