The Human-Computer Interaction Institute (HCII), founded in 1993, is a research hub investigating the relationship between computer technology, human activity, and society. We aim to create technology that enhances human capabilities and social environments through interdisciplinary research and education in design, computer science, and social sciences.

Job Opportunity

Join us as a Research Associate for a project at the intersection of HCI and learning science, focusing on social robots in programming education. You will work under Dr. Amy Ogan, with interactions with faculty including Dr. Erin Walker and Dr. Angela Stewart at the University of Pittsburgh.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Investigate the design of a social robot for programming activities.
  2. Assess whether using this robot improves CS outcomes like attitudes, self-efficacy, and knowledge.
  3. Participate in research activities aligned with your expertise, including interaction design, user studies, curriculum design, data collection and analysis, and publishing results.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in HCI, Game Design, Computer Science, Learning Sciences, Psychology, or related fields.
  • Strong methodological background.
  • Interest in social interaction, computer science education, engagement, and rapport.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods such as observations, interviews, and longitudinal data analysis.
  • Relevant education and experience demonstrating comparable knowledge.
