Job Description

Prairie View A&M University’s College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (CAFNR) is seeking to fill a 9‑month, non‑tenure track Research Assistant Professor position with expertise in muscle biology. The position is designed for a highly motivated scientist who will contribute to PVAMU’s research, teaching, and outreach mission as an 1890 land‑grant institution. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary academic environment and is expected to develop an externally funded research program that advances both fundamental and applied understanding of post‑mortem muscle biology, meat quality, and biochemical mechanisms influencing fresh meat attributes. The PVAMU Meat Science Center for Innovation provides state‑inspected processing facilities, including slaughter, fabrication, ready‑to‑eat processing, and research laboratories, and the candidate will have access to CAFNR core labs and on‑campus animal resources.

Important Immigration Information

A Presidential proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H‑1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University will not pay this fee. If you require immigration sponsorship, consult your own immigration counsel at your own expense to determine whether your current status would allow a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University. On January 27, 2026, the Texas Governor issued a moratorium on the filing of any new H‑1B unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission, which may affect our ability to employ you if you are selected as the final candidate.

  • Successfully secure extramural funding from federal agencies (e.g., USDA‑NIFA, AFRI, 1890 Capacity Building Program), foundations, and industry partners.
  • Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed scientific journals and present results at professional meetings.
  • Contribute to and collaborate with teaching and extension missions.
  • Participate and assist in college‑wide events, activities, committees and perform other duties as assigned.
