Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Research Associate to design, execute and manage preclinical studies in a hematology/oncology setting. You will work with the PI to develop goals, plan complex experiments and oversee data analysis and reporting for national conferences and publications.

You will assist with grant writing, manage lab budgets, and ensure safety compliance while training staff and coordinating procurement of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological/health science or equivalent.
  • Three years of relevant research experience with patient-derived xenograft mouse models for T-ALL and patient samples.
  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo models of combined therapies and CK2/Ikaros axis in acute leukemia.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute and manage research projects in a foundational biology lab.
  • Plan and conduct molecular, cellular and preclinical animal studies.
  • Develop data analysis plans and prepare manuscripts or reports for publication.

Scope/Summary:

Research Associate designs, executes, and manages research projects, conducting preclinical studies in a foundational (basic) biological and health science research laboratory in the Hemaotlogy/Oncology laboratory of Dr. Chunhua Song. Collaborates with principal investigator (PI, Chunhua Song) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies. Conceptualizes, designs, and executes complex laboratory experiments. Plans and executes advanced molecular, cellular, and preclinical animal study techniques. Plans, coordinates and oversees processing and analysis of data; analyzes and interprets research data. Develops and implements new and/or revised research methodology and techniques. Plans and tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and develops and establishes research controls, criteria and standards. Performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research. Collaborates with the principal investigator to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents. Attends and presents research results at national and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars.

Assists with development, writing and preparation of grant proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research. Investigates, identifies and recommends possible sources of research funding. Participates in developing and managing grant budgets, monitors expenses. Monitors and enforces laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials. Trains research staff and manages daily operations of the laboratory. Oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment. Provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment. Negotiates and oversees equipment service contracts and repairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Three years of relevant experience in a biological/health research capacity is required, particularly with patient-derived xenograft mouse models for T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia and preparation of patient samples. Strong experience in vitro and in vivo models on combined therapies and the CK2/Ikaros axis in acute leukemia is a priority.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience working with mouse models of cancer, especially hematological malignancies, is highly desirable. Must be familiar with flow cytometry techniques, mouse tissue handling, and human sample handling. Must be extremely comfortable working/handling mice and performing survival surgeries. Familiarity with cell-culture techniques, CUT & TAG and qChIP techniques, Basic Immunology-related techniques, and metabolism-related techniques is desirable. Advanced degree preferred.
