Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Springfield R&D. The Research Assistant/Technologist will aid and support the day-to-day operation of the Pilot Plant. The R&D facility supports the development of process technologies and machine sales that find application around the globe.
Job responsibilities and tasks
The Research Assistant/Technologist for the Mechanical Pulping R&D Center will be responsible for the development of processes and work procedures to drive continuous improvement across the Mechanical Pulping group.
The role is responsible for evaluating existing technology and developing new technologies to ultimately drive sales growth across the Pulp and Paper business.
Working with both internal groups and external customers the main purpose of this role is innovative trial formulation, development and execution, data acquisition and analysis and detailed reporting of research findings in collaboration with the wider business.
This position will additionally oversee the general laboratory activities conducted at the Springfield Pilot Plant as part of the wider trial and contract services performed at the facility.
A strong mechanical aptitude is required for this position.
Educational & Professional Qualifications
If candidate has a master’s degree, they will come in at the Research Assistant level. If the candidate has a PhD, they will come in at the Technologist level.
Additional Qualifications
In addition to working in an office environment, this position requires the capability of working in a pilot plant and lab environments. These environments may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, chemicals, fumes, irritants, dust, and dirt.
Must possess strong problem solving, organizational, time management, prioritization, independent decision-making skills, while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Physical requirements: Sit, stand, bend, reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, climb, grasp, navigate stair. Must have visual acuity, manual dexterity, ability to endure long hours, good mobility, and wear required personal protective equipment.
