Research Assistant II - Ordovas-Montanes Lab

The Ordovas-Montanes Lab is seeking a motivated Research Assistant II to join the Division of Gastroenterology. The lab specializes in understanding how inflammation drives memory formation in barrier tissues, aiming to develop new therapeutic avenues for human disease. The selected candidate will contribute to a project on mucosal immunity to respiratory infection and vaccination, working under the supervision of Dr. Jose Ordovas-Montanes.

This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in experimental and computational biological sciences within an interdisciplinary environment at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The ideal candidate is interested in infection-induced inflammatory diseases and postgraduate education.

Responsibilities:
  1. Developing and implementing experimental workflows for:
  • Single-cell RNA-sequencing of human samples
  • Air-liquid interface culture models
  • Bioinformatic analyses using R/Python
  • Following protocols and schedules
  • Troubleshooting procedures
  • Ensuring laboratory activities comply with regulations
  • Sterilizing equipment and preparing media
  • Qualifications:
    1. Bachelor’s degree in biology, immunology, chemistry, genomics, or related field, with 2+ years of bench experience
    2. Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills
    3. Ability to learn quickly and work independently and in a team
    4. Interest in developing new experimental or computational techniques
    5. Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology
    6. Experience with single-cell RNA-sequencing and data analysis (assets, not required)
