Job summary

The Program in Population and Environmental Health Disparities at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant II to support an NIH-funded R01 project. You will assist with geospatial and environmental data processing, data curation and management, and cleaning of administrative health datasets.

The position will also support literature reviews, manuscript preparation and proofreading, and other research activities related to the project aims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
• Three years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform GIS analyses including geocoding, spatial joins, and linking exposure estimates with health data.
• Maintain organized research databases, data dictionaries, and reproducible data-processing records.
• Assist with cleaning administrative health datasets from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
• Review and proofread manuscripts, abstracts, and reports.

Salary Range: $52,109 - $61,304

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Program in Population and Environmental Health Disparities in the Center for Precision Environmental Health at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant II to support an NIH-funded R01 research project. The successful candidate will assist with geospatial and environmental data processing, data curation and management, and cleaning of administrative health datasets. The position will also support literature reviews, manuscript preparation and proofreading, and other research activities associated with the aims of the funded project.

Job Duties

• Use R and Geographic Information System (GIS) software to generate geospatial predictor datasets for air pollution models.


• Use high-performance computing (HPC) resources when appropriate for processing large datasets.


• Perform GIS analyses, including geocoding, spatial joins, and linkage of environmental exposure estimates with populations health data.


• Assist with cleaning administrative health datasets from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).


• Perform quality control and quality assurance (QA/QC) procedures to identify missing, inconsistent, or potentially erroneous data.


• Maintain organized research databases, data dictionaries, documentation, and reproducible data-processing records.


• Assist with preparation of tables, figures, supplementary materials, and other research products.


• Review and proofread manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, reports, and related scientific materials.


• Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.


• Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in basic science or a related field.


• Strong quantitative, analytical, and data-management skills.


• Experience working with large or complex datasets.


• Experience with statistical programming or data-analysis software, such as R, Python, or similar tools.


• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or geospatial data processing.


• Experience using high-performance computing (HPC) environments.


• Familiarity with environmental health, epidemiology, public health, or population health research.
