Job Summary

The entry level Research Assistant I (RA) will support research in health information technology (HIT) on various studies using biosensors, augmented reality, virtual reality, uncrewed aerial systems, and others to improve advanced care at home.

In affiliation with our Home Hospital program, the RA will be going into patient homes to perform standardized assessments. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license preferred, but not a requirement. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

The entry level Research Assistant I (RA) will support research in health information technology (HIT) on various studies using biosensors, augmented reality, virtual reality, uncrewed aerial systems, and others to improve advanced care at home.

In affiliation with our Home Hospital program, the RA will be going into patient homes to perform standardized assessments. Access to a vehicle and a valid driver's license preferred, but not a requirement. Spanish language proficiency preferred.

This study will provide an opportunity for the RA to explore advanced areas in HIT while supporting this project. The candidate does not need to be familiar with these advanced concepts but must demonstrate an ability to quickly learn and adapt to various technology platforms. The RA will perform literature reviews and help with manuscript preparation.

The RA will support all activities associated with the execution of the research plan including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and organizing communication with participants, collaborators and project staff. The RA will use Excel and REDCap to assist with data collection and analysis. The position requires strong communication, organizational and analytical skills. The RA's responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and literature searches.

The Division of General Internal Medicine and Primary Care (DGIM) holds an annual Research Day forum for RAs to showcase their contributions via oral and poster presentations and promote professional development through a career panel discussion.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Indicate key areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. These items should be evaluated throughout the year and included in the written annual evaluation.

  • Initiates data abstraction from a variety of sources including patient medical records, hospital clinical information systems, and stakeholder transcripts.
  • Commutes to patient homes alone
  • Collects data in patient homes alone.
  • Utilizes Excel to assist in data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis.
  • Utilizes REDCap to enable data collection efforts, including development of case report forms and descriptive data analysis. (In-house REDCap training is available.)
  • Assists with data analysis and system evaluation.
  • Performs literature searches and assists with manuscript preparation.
  • Assists with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, tables and graphs.
  • Assists with grant progress reports and IRB submissions as needed.
  • Presents on work in specified forums.
  • Conducts other administrative tasks (photocopying, scheduling, etc.) as needed.
  • Sets up team/stakeholder meetings and take minutes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care.
  • Familiarity with REDCap preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite

Familiarity with a statistical programming language (R, SAS, STATA, etc) preferred

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required :

  • Responsible for database management: create, input data, query, import/export, and restructure database, forms and queries as needed using MS Access, Excel, and RedCap to meet the study team's needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required for working with hospital leadership and study staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect.
  • Regard for patient privacy essential.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
  • Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines.
Working Conditions:
