Overview
The Research Assistant assists with experiments in a basic researchlab with a focus on genetic diseases and autoimmunity.Duties in this new lab will includeperforming molecular and cell biology experiments independently and as part of a team, as well as general lab maintenance and ordering supplies, and genotyping and maintaining a mouse colony. Experiments will include working with live mice, mouse and human cells in culture, as well as basic molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry.

Responsibilities
- The successful applicant must be able to design and execute experiments with appropriate controls and experimental rigor and to interpret the derived data.
- Genotype transgenic and knock-out mice using PCR and flow cytometry.
- Perform fluorescence activated cell sorting to analyze and purify live cells.
- Maintain sterile cultures of rodent and human primary cells and cell lines.
- Maintain a specific pathogen free mouse colony, including breeding, weighing, and monitoring food intake and response to medication.
- Perform in vivo experiments and harvesting of cells and tissues from mice.
- Provide general lab support (ordering and stocking supplies, coordinating glassware washing, equipment repairs, buffer preparation, etc.)
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and data storage/archiving.
- Assist PI and other lab members in organizing, maintaining and distributing plasmids, antibodies, cell lines, etc.
- Ensure safe laboratory practices and compliance with all institutional research guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology or related fields
- Strong background in immunology, molecular and cell biology and/or biochemistry.
- Experience working with animals is preferred
- Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and a high level of motivation and reliability
