Job summary

AEI seeks a full-time, in-person Research Assistant to support economic policy fellows on tax policy, public finance, and international macroeconomics. The role begins in fall 2026 and offers exposure to rigorous econometric work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics or mathematics required by start date.
  • 0–2 years of relevant full-time work experience; internships preferred.
  • Experience using Stata, R, and Excel required; Python preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in economics and public policy.
  • Strong math or statistics background; coursework in linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and econometrics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Research and write for papers, studies, and reports on tax policy; under guidance of experienced researchers.
  • Support data manipulation, retrieval, analysis, entry, and extraction.
  • Edit and contribute to scholarly papers, articles for a general audience, op-eds, and books.
  • Create and format charts, graphics, and tables.
  • Conduct literature searches of national and international publications.
  • Summarize select articles and reports.
  • Coordinate public events and private meetings.
  • Post content on the AEI website.
