Job summary

Masonic Medical Research Institute in Utica is seeking a full-time, entry-level Research Assistant to support the Lin laboratory. You will assist the PI and postdocs by performing molecular biology experiments, cell culture, and animal studies, with emphasis on accurate data collection and documentation.

The role requires a BA/BS in biology or a related science, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in biology or a related science is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform DNA, mRNA, and protein isolation from cells or tissue; carry out PCR, western blot, immunohistochemistry, cell assays, and transfections.
• Culture cells and perform drug studies as directed by the PI.
• Carry out histologic and immunocytochemical experiments; use image analysis to collect data; analyze data with Excel and SPSS with PI assistance.
• Prepare oral and written reports for the PI, including abstracts, manuscripts, grants, and data reports for meetings.
• Collect mouse samples for genotyping and assist with mouse crosses, breeding, and phenotyping.
• Assist with animal surgery, transport, and recordkeeping; help with mouse drug and behavioral studies.
• Collaborate with other PIs and staff in the lab; train and assist others in lab procedures.
