Job summary

Science Corp in California is seeking an Animal Care Technician with research animal experience to join our world-class team. You will provide daily care, welfare, and husbandry for our research animals and support our growing program, with weekend availability.

The role requires adherence to SOPs, documentation, and collaboration with veterinary staff to ensure high standards of animal health and well‑being. Prior certification (AALAS) and knowledge of welfare principles are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with research animals.
  • Strong understanding of animal behavior, husbandry, and welfare principles.
  • Working knowledge of hygienic principles and animal husbandry practices.
  • Understanding of Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals principles.
  • Availability to work weekends and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Ability to understand and follow facility SOPs.
  • Proficiency in reading English and numerical data for instructions, record-keeping, and animal identification.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds (feed, bedding, animals).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring per approved guidelines, SOPs, and regulations.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation including animal identification cards, inventory records, environment reports, enrichment logs, and equipment cleaning and sterilization records.
  • Assist with animal handling, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures.
  • Ensure optimal animal care environments through systematic facility maintenance, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of all surfaces at prescribed intervals following facility SOPs.
  • Provide humane care and maintenance.
