Job summary

Johns Hopkins University seeks an Animal Facility Assistant to support research teams with humane animal care, welfare and technical assistance. The role covers sanitation, husbandry and all support functions for a variety of laboratory animals in a compliant facility.

The position requires lifting up to 50 lbs, flexible hours including weekends, and accurate record keeping of animal populations and environmental conditions. Training in aseptic methods and safety procedures is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or graduation equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of laboratory animal care or related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of asepsis, disease control and prevention, and animal housing.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks of the Animal Cage Washer as needed.
• Clean, sanitize and sterilize animal cages, feeders, water bottles, and rooms.
• Maintain accurate records of animals, food and water consumption.
• Observe animals for health issues and report to supervisor.
• Assist in routine treatments and euthanasia following training.
• Maintain environmental logs and support equipment maintenance.
