Job summary

About the Role

ETR is adding a Research Analyst to our Analytics team, the group that designs our surveys and turns the resulting data into research that the world's most sophisticated investors trade on. Reporting directly to the head of our Analytics team, this is a hybrid analyst role: part data analyst, part research analyst, shaped day to day by what our clients need most.

Day to day, this job lives inside the financial-services world. You will own survey research on enterprise technology markets, spanning software, hardware, cloud, infrastructure, IT services, and semiconductors, and you will write the narrative research that financial analysts at hedge funds and asset managers use to make investment decisions. Understanding how an investor reads a research note, what a portfolio manager actually needs answered, and how markets and technology news move together is central to doing this job well. Your work is written for, and shaped by, an investor audience.

This role suits someone with 3+ years of experience in the financial-services or investment-research world — equity research, wealth management, investment banking, or a financial-data or research-vendor role covering technology names — who is comfortable using code and AI tooling to move faster. It is a remote-friendly position open to candidates anywhere in the US.

What You Will Do

• Stay on top of client interest and market news. Maintain a running pulse on what clients are asking for, relayed through our client-facing teams, and on what's moving in the market and where investor attention is heading — and use both to actively shape survey design and research prioritization.
• Design surveys end to end. Take a research objective, conduct desk research to get up to speed on the topic and domain, and translate it into a well-constructed questionnaire, with clear, unbiased questions and a logical structure that yields data worth analyzing.
• Write for an investor audience. Combine survey results with outside context — market news, earnings and financial data, and vendor developments — to author narrative research reports that explain what is happening and why it matters to a portfolio manager or analyst making an investment decision, not just "X% of respondents said Y."
• Build with modern tooling. Use Python, SQL, and LLM-based workflows for data processing, research synthesis, and drafting, and help the team keep improving how this work gets done.

What We Are Looking For

• Financial markets / investor-facing experience. You have worked somewhere your output was consumed by, or served, investors — sell-side or buy-side research, wealth management, investment banking, portfolio or trading work, or a financial-data or research-vendor role. You understand how professional investors read research and what makes it useful to them. This matters more than anything else.
• Technology-sector knowledge, as a research subject. You can get smart fast on enterprise software, hardware, cloud, infrastructure, IT services, or semiconductors, and you understand these markets well enough to analyze and write about them for an external, investor-facing audience — not just to have used the tools internally.
• Survey design skill. You know how to write a good question, how to avoid biasing a respondent, and how to structure a questionnaire so it flows logically and produces clean, analyzable data.
• 3+ years of experience in equity research, market or industry research, financial analysis, consulting, or a similar analytical role.
• Strong analytical writing: you can move from a dataset to a clear, well-structured narrative that a professional investor finds useful.
• Programming ability. Working proficiency in Python and SQL, and comfort building and using LLM workflows for research synthesis, drafting, and data processing.
• A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, a STEM field, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
