Job summary

The Oregon State Police Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas, Oregon is seeking a full-time, permanent Research Analyst 2 to support the Human Identification Program (HIP) with advanced data analysis, case tracking, and research coordination for unidentified and unclaimed remains.

Position is in-office only, with no remote or hybrid option. The role interfaces with forensic anthropology, medicolegal, and law enforcement partners, handling sensitive content and complex datasets.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree with six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures.
• Three years’ experience as a research assistant comparable to the work of a Research Analyst 1.
• Two years’ experience using computer applications to help gather, compile, analyze, and report information and statistical data.

Responsibilities

• Support the Human Identification Program (HIP) by conducting advanced data analysis, case tracking, research coordination, and program support related to unidentified and unclaimed human remains.
• Integrate quantitative analysis, interagency coordination, and applied research methodologies to assist identification of decedents and statewide data systems.

Summary of Job Duties:

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Human Identification Program (HIP) within the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office by conducting advanced data analysis, case tracking, research coordination, and program support related to unidentified and unclaimed human remains.

This position integrates quantitative analysis, interagency coordination, and applied research methodologies to assist in the identification of decedents, improved statewide data systems, and supports forensic and investigative workflows.

In this position, you will serve as a central operational and analytical resource for case management, records centralization, and program development while supporting forensic anthropology, medicolegal, and law enforcement partners.

Minimum Qualifications/Eligibility Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline that included six-quarter units in statistics or quantitative analysis methods and procedures;

OR

Three years’ experience as a research assistant comparable to the work of a Research Analyst 1;

OR

Two years’ experience using computer applications to help gather, compile, analyze, and report information and statistical data.

Preferred Skills:

• Consistently demonstrates a high standard of performance, personal integrity, and conduct, while adhering to best confidentiality practices.

• Skilled at reading, interpreting, and explaining laws, rules, policies, and procedures to a variety of individuals who have differing communication styles and levels of understanding of the information.

• Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook to includeworking with databases, auditing reports, and performing quality assurance.

• Ability to proactively work independently and within a team environment.

• Skill in analytical problem solving, strong critical thinking and adaptability.

• Experience working in stressful environments; maintaining composure during phone calls and/or visits with grieving and upset families, media, and other members of the public and the ability to handle exposure to graphic photographs and content.

• Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, clearly and effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including those in highly technical fields (e.g., DNA)

• Ability to apply creativity and problem-solving skills to unique situations and requests from stakeholders, while meeting shifting deadlines and managing competing priorities

• Experience handling sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality
