Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Analyst to join the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Science (PETS) within the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. Established in 2017, PETS facilitates and conducts innovative, multidisciplinary research focused on the use and outcomes of therapeutics and diagnostics in large populations. Its mission is to advance pharmacoepidemiology and related fields through world-class research and high-quality training. PETS brings together faculty and collaborators from Rutgers and external academic, industry, and regulatory organizations with expertise spanning epidemiology, biostatistics, biomedical informatics, clinical medicine, economics, and the social sciences.
The Research Analyst will provide data‑analytic support for a large portfolio of population health research and work closely with investigators and senior staff to implement statistical programming and analyses using SAS and other analytical software. The incumbent will develop and maintain sophisticated programs to analyze large, sensitive healthcare administrative databases and population-based survey data. Research activities will involve highly complex "big data" resources, including Medicare, Medicaid, and other healthcare datasets containing hundreds of millions of records, with the goal of generating evidence to inform therapeutic decision‑making and health policy.
Several key duties of this position are provided below:
- Prepares, manages, and documents large healthcare claims, electronic health record, survey, and other research datasets.
- Conducts routine and advanced statistical programming and analyses using SAS and other analytic software.
- Contributes to cohort construction, variable creation, data quality assessment, and analytic dataset development.
- Performs data validation and quality control activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of research data.
- Supports data linkage and integration activities across multiple complex data sources.
- Develops tables, figures, visualizations, and analytic summaries for manuscripts, presentations, grant applications, and reports.
- Collaborates with investigators and research staff to interpret findings and support study objectives.
- Maintains organized code, datasets, and documentation to support reproducibility and compliance requirements.
- Contributes to the testing and implementation of analytic tools, databases, and research infrastructure.
- Assists with preparation of manuscripts, progress reports, grant materials, and other scientific deliverables.
- Supports compliance with IRB requirements, Data Use Agreements, and applicable privacy and security regulations.
- Participates in research dissemination activities, including presentations, publications, and conference submissions.
- Stays current with developments in statistical programming, healthcare data resources, and research methods.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a related analytical or scientific field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with large datasets, supporting data management and data analysis, or research operations in an academic, healthcare, research, or public sector environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Foundational knowledge of data management principles, including data cleaning, documentation, quality control, and dataset organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large, complex datasets, including administrative, clinical, survey, or other secondary data sources.
- Experience conducting routine and intermediate quantitative analyses using statistical or analytical software such as SAS, R, Stata, SQL, GIS or comparable tools, as well as advanced analyses under the guidance of senior analysts or investigators.
- Ability to prepare tables, figures, summaries, and data visualizations to support research reports, manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations.
- Working knowledge of research compliance requirements relevant to human subjects research, including data privacy, confidentiality, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in maintaining datasets, analytic files, documentation, and version control.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate productively with faculty, analysts, project staff, and administrative partners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project needs in a fastpaced research environment.
