Job summary

  • Good communication to interact with sponsors, faculty, staff and university entities.

Position will be offered at 75% but may increase to 100% at certain times of the year according to workload and business needs. Position is hybrid-eligible but while training, will be fully onsite. Training is expected to last 3-6 months.

Department Summary

The Computer Science Department strives for excellence in creating, applying, and imparting knowledge in computer science and engineering through comprehensive educational programs, research in collaboration with industry and government, dissemination through scholarly publications, and service to professional societies, the community, the state, and the nation.

Position Summary

During the period of initial training which could last up to 6 months, the position is fully onsite. After training has been successfully completed, the position will be eligible for a hybrid schedule based on business needs. This position is being offered at 75%. This will be increased to 100% at certain times of the year (for example, based on workload or operational needs) and effort at 100% is required during those times.

Under minimal supervision from the Director of the Center for Domain-Specific Computing (CDSC), this incumbent performs critical tasks that ensure the productivity, effectiveness and success of the multi-faculty Center, currently supported by a consortium of industrial partners from major technology companies as well as federal grants. The incumbent acts as a key point-of-contact for the Center; interprets and implements university financial policies; monitors expenditures and analyzes cost reports; uses good communication skills to plan and coordinate annual reviews; monitors grant to ensure compliance with reporting requirements; participates in the preparation and submission of reports, overviews, briefings, etc. Incumbent is also responsible for the administration of several other research grants from both government and industry associated with the Center's director in his parallel role as the head of the VAST (VLSI architecture synthesis & technology) Laboratory. The position will also assist with the director's graduate students' employment administration.

Qualifications
  1. Fund management/contracts/grants experience (Required)
  2. 1. Demonstrate or acquire knowledge of DARPA, NSF, and other government agency contracting procedures, including proposal preparation and submission, contract reporting and contract cost collection. (Required)
  3. 2. The ability for financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and administration for contracts; Proficiency in use of computer programs/tools related to financial budgeting and projection, such as Excel. (Required)
  4. 3. Demonstrated skills in technical writing and editing. Use of appropriate text processing applications. (Required)
  5. 4. Knowledge of basic accounting principles, and specifically, UCLA's general ledger and contracting accounting systems. Also skill in using university online systems such as BruinBuy Plus and Concur Travel Express. (Preferred)
  6. 5. Good communication skills to interact professionally with government and industrial sponsors, faculty, research team members, departmental staff, graduate students and various university entities. (Preferred)
  7. 6. Skill in analyzing information, defining problems or objectives, identifying relevant concerns, formulating conclusions, and proposing alternatives and solutions. (Required)
