Position Information Classification Title Building Services Worker I FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Position Summary The Residential Dining Building Services Worker I is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and custodial duties throughout UGA Dining Services’ residential dining facilities. This position performs the essential functions necessary to maintain clean, sanitary, safe, welcoming, and functional environments while providing professional communication and customer service to peers, meal plan holders, students, faculty, staff, visitors, and other stakeholders. The position performs all duties safely and efficiently in accordance with University of Georgia standards, policies, and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Safely operate and properly use a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery associated with the custodial field, including vacuums and other custodial equipment.
  • Complete assigned work with the expected level of independence, attention to detail, efficiency, and quality.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate in a professional, respectful, and consistent manner with a diverse group of individuals, including food service workers, cooks, managers, students, families, and other UGA Dining Services staff.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, prioritize responsibilities, and respond effectively and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow established safety, sanitation, and operational procedures and standards.

Physical Demands

  • Move loads weighing up to 50 pounds, including unloading and stocking products and supplies.
  • Perform pushing and pulling activities involving products and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Perform duties requiring repetitive motion of the wrists, arms, and shoulders and demonstrate adequate hand and finger coordination.
  • Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel as required to perform assigned duties.
  • Work in environments that may be noisy and exposed to varying temperatures, including hot and cold conditions, as well as cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Remain standing and perform physical activities for extended periods of time.
Duties/Responsibilities

Cleaning and Related Duties

  • Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas of residential dining facilities including but not limited to restrooms, flooring, furniture, kitchens, loading docks, and common areas.
  • Remove trash and recyclables and clean and maintain trash cans and recycling bins.
  • Replenish and maintain adequate supplies of soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and other essential supplies in restrooms, kitchens, breakrooms, and public spaces.
  • Monitor, track, organize, and maintain custodial supplies to support efficient daily operations.
  • Operate custodial equipment and cleaning machinery safely and in accordance with established procedures.

Summer Operations

  • Perform assigned summer projects, including annual deep-cleaning and maintenance activities throughout residential dining facilities.
  • Assist with moving furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other items throughout residential dining facilities as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in residential dining facilities during summer operations, including New Student Orientation, camps, conferences, and other scheduled activities.
  • Support preparation of residential dining facilities for the upcoming academic year.
