Job summary

Hawaii State Archives on Hawaii Island is seeking a detail-oriented professional to support public works operations through administration and coordination. You will receive and coordinate requests for repair and maintenance of schools and other public buildings, conduct informal bid purchasing, and maintain operating and fiscal data critical to project tracking.

Salary: $4,742 to $6,003 per month (SR-18, Step C to I).

Duties Summary

Receive and coordinate requests for the repair and maintenance of schools and other public buildings; conduct informal bid purchasing for supplies, materials and services required in repairs and maintenance; maintain pertinent operating and fiscal data; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization To Work Requirement

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

Education

Graduation from high school. Excess experience of the type described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

General Experience

TWO (2) YEARS of general work experience which required the keeping of written records. Such record keeping experience may have been acquired in the performance of duties in which record keeping comprised the major portion of the job responsibilities. The record keeping experience may also have been gained in trades, custodial, clerical or any other general field of employment in which the record keeping function may have constituted a small but vital portion of the responsibilities of the position.

Specialized Experience
  • SCHEDULING building construction or maintenance work which included such duties as receiving requests for construction or maintenance; recommending or determining priorities; scheduling jobs; making estimates of time, manpower and materials required for jobs; following up on status of various jobs; preparing status reports; and performing other duties related to the scheduling of building construction or maintenance work.
  • PURCHASING building construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as studying market conditions and prices; selecting sources of supply; preparing purchase orders, bid proposals, contracts or similar instruments; analyzing cost price proposals; and performing other duties related to the purchasing of building construction or maintenance materials or services.
  • SELLING building construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as preparing bids, calling on customers, displaying and demonstrating merchandise; estimating or quoting prices; preparing forms and sales contracts; preparing reports of transactions; and performing other duties related to the sales of building construction or maintenance materials or services.
  • ESTIMATING labor and material costs of construction or maintenance materials or services which included such duties as examining specifications; compiling itemized materials and price lists; computing cost estimates of materials and labor; and performing other duties related to estimating construction or maintenance costs.
Supervisory Aptitude

Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by details to supervisory positions; by completion of work assignments; or by favorable appraisals of a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

Driver's License

Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
