Job summary

SGS Consulting in Austin, TX seeks a hands-on Electronics/Mechanical Technician to perform repairs on operational tools, inspect returns, and conduct function tests to ensure quality and readiness for redeployment.

You will maintain repair workspaces, manage tools and parts, and track asset status using dedicated software. Proficient soldering, wiring harness repair, and reading technical documentation are required.

Qualifications

• Certificate in electronic or mechanical engineering technology or 3+ years hands-on repairs.
• Experience using multimeters, power supplies and oscilloscopes.
• Ability to read technical documentation for assembly, testing and part replacement.
• Strong computer skills to learn proprietary software and related systems.
• Soldering and wiring harness repair experience.
• Mechanical/electronic/hydraulic repair and testing aptitude.

Perform basic and intermediate electronic and mechanical repairs on operational tools and equipment. Inspect equipment returning from field jobs for damage and determine repair requirements. Function tests all repaired equipment to ensure quality and proper operation. Maintain repair workspaces and ensure sufficient tools, parts, and supplies are available to support same-day repairs whenever possible. Track equipment condition, repairs, testing and replenishment using asset tracking software. Prepare, test and replenish operational assets prior to redeployment. Follow technical documentation for assembly, disassembly, testing and part replacement.

Skills

Soldering skills, including wiring and harness repair (crimping, wire preparation), test equipment, assembly, disassembly, testing and part replacement.

Education/Experience

• Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Technician certificate and/or a minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience performing electronic and mechanical repairs
• Experience using electronic test equipment including multimeters, power supplies and oscilloscopes
• Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and operate proprietary software and related systems
• Understanding of firmware and software downloads and updates
• Soldering skills, including wiring and harness repair (crimping, wire preparation)
• Mechanical aptitude to perform basic and intermediate repairs and functional testing on mechanical, electronic and hydraulic systems
• Ability to read, understand and follow technical documentation for assembly, disassembly, testing and part replacement
