Job summary

Cypress HCM in San Diego, CA is seeking a skilled Repair Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and test customer-returned electronic equipment to the component level. The role involves working with minimal supervision, performing complex rework and soldering, documenting repairs, and helping identify reliability issues.

You will document failure codes, repairs, and corrective actions, read schematics, and provide backup support to lead technicians.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in electronics technology or related field.
• 5+ years of electronics troubleshooting, repair, manufacturing, or SMT experience.
• Expert-level troubleshooting across a range of electronic products.
• Fine-pitch soldering and SMT component removal/replacement skills.
• Ability to read schematics and manufacturing drawings.
• Proficient with Windows and standard applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication and problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot customer-returned equipment to component level and find root cause.
• Prepare repair estimates when needed and compare findings to customer complaints.
• Perform component-level repairs, rework, modifications, updates, and realignments.
• Test and validate to ensure repaired equipment meets specifications.
• Inspect finished products for quality and workmanship standards.
• Document failure codes, repairs, and corrective actions on repair orders.
• Identify product/process issues and elevate reliability concerns.
• Initiate EARs when product corrections are needed.
• Explain issues and repair findings to customers and colleagues.
• Provide backup support to Lead Technicians as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot customer-returned equipment to the component level and determine root cause of failures
• Compare technical findings with customer complaints and prepare repair estimates when needed
• Perform component-level repairs, rework, modifications, updates, and realignments
• Perform testing and validation to ensure repaired equipment meets specifications
• Inspect finished products for quality and workmanship standards
• Document failure codes, repairs, and corrective actions on repair orders
• Identify product and process issues and elevate service or reliability concerns
• Initiate Engineering Action Requests (EAR) when product corrections are needed
• Explain technical issues and repair findings to internal and external customers
• Provide backup support to Lead Technicians as needed

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology, technical school/certificate, or equivalent education and experience
• 5+ years of electronics troubleshooting, repair, manufacturing, or SMT experience
• Expert-level troubleshooting skills across a variety of electronic products
• Excellent soldering skills, including fine-pitch and complex surface-mount component removal and replacement
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and manufacturing drawings
• Strong understanding of basic electronics theory
• Experience using common hand tools and electronic test equipment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and standard applications
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Good judgment and ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
