You will work with temperature and humidity chambers and some electrodynamic shakers, applying your maintenance and repair skills to keep testing equipment running.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting electrical and refrigeration systems, repairing panels and wiring, and documenting downtime and service reports.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or trade school in HVAC/R, electronics, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required.
  • 2–4 years of experience, preferably in a testing lab.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment used to simulate extreme climate and stress conditions (temperature, humidity, altitude, shakers).
  • Preventive maintenance, fix electrical faults, service refrigeration systems, restore environmental controls to minimize downtime.
  • Inspect equipment, check refrigerant charges, replace worn components.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration failures; identify root causes.
  • Perform complex repairs including brazing/soldering, replacing compressors, and repairing control panels or wiring harnesses.
  • Document downtime, service reports, calibration results, and parts usage.

Overview

Element is seeking a full-time Environmental Repair Maintenance Technician (temperature and humidity chambers and some electrodynamic shakers) to join our Environmental Department in the Newark, California lab. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your previous experience and technical acumen for a career within the testing and certification industry. You will join a tight-knit and supportive team in a role that requires critical thinking and will give you opportunity to further develop skills and experience.

Element Newark provides accredited dynamics, seismic,environmental simulation, and thermal stress testing to support qualification and compliance throughout the hardware development lifecycle—from prototype through mass production.

Pay range $38-42/hr

Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the specialized equipment used to simulate extreme climate and stress conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, altitude, and shakers)
  • Preventive maintenance, fixing electrical faults, servicing single stage and cascade refrigeration systems, restoring precise environmental controls to prevent and minimize testing downtime
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine equipment inspections, clean condenser coils, check refrigerant charge levels, and replace worn components to prevent equipment failure
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Identify the root cause of mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration failures (e.g., shutdown/tripping events, temperature / humidity errors, controller operational or communication issues)
  • Repairs: Execute complex repairs, including brazing/soldering refrigeration piping, replacing compressors, and repairing control panels or wiring harnesses
  • Documentation: Ensure record of equipment downtime, detailed service reports, document calibration results, and maintain logs of parts used and work performed
Skills / Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or trade school certification in HVAC/R, electronics, or industrial maintenance highly preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certifications: EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (for handling refrigerants) required
  • 2-4 years' experience, preferably in a testing lab environment
  • Advanced understanding of commercial refrigeration, cascade refrigeration systems, electrical schematics, and high-voltage troubleshooting
  • Must have valid driver's license, or ability to obtain prior to beginning employment
  • Ability to work required overtime, including weekends as needed, to meet customer deliverables
