Overview

Element has an opportunity for an Environmental Test Engineer to support and lead testing programs for components and systems developed for key account projects in our Burton, MI laboratory. In this role, you will design and execute test plans to evaluate product performance, durability, and reliability under a range of thermal, vibration, humidity, and environmental conditions, ensuring compliance with customer specifications and industry standards. You will also be responsible for analyzing data, preparing detailed technical reports, and collaborating closely with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality, actionable results.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in developing electrical circuits, automating test stands, and programming in Python or equivalent software to enhance test efficiency and capability. This position is part of a strategic investment in expanding Element’s environmental testing services and offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on, mid-level engineer to take ownership of projects in a growing and innovative field. Responsibilities
  • Design and execute environmental test plans to assess product performance, durability, and reliability under thermal, vibration, humidity, and combined environmental conditions
  • Develop and integrate electrical circuits and instrumentation systems to support environmental testing and data acquisition.
  • Automate test stands and control systems to improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and accuracy
  • Write and maintain automation scripts using Python or equivalent software (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB) for data acquisition, control, and analysis
  • Manage projects from planning through delivery, including scheduling, resource coordination, and client communication to ensure successful execution of test programs
  • Analyze test data and prepare detailed technical reports, collaborating with cross-functional teams to refine testing methods and ensure compliance with customer and industry standards
Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in testing, validation, or a related engineering discipline
  • Technology degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of 7 years of experience in testing, validation, or a related engineering discipline
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment and data analysis tools; experience with test automation preferred
  • Familiarity with automotive test standards such as FCA CS.00056, Ford CEPT;00:00-E-412, GMW 3172, ISO 16750, IEC 60068-2-38, USCAR-2, IEC 60529, SAE J1455, or similar is desirable
  • Knowledge of environmental and performance testing methods for electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
Physical Demands
  • Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
