Job summary

Tamron Americas is seeking a Repair Technician to diagnose, repair, calibrate, and test professional photographic lenses to factory specifications in Commack, NY. This full-time role supports a Monday–Friday schedule with a 37.5 hour workweek and a pay rate of $22.00 to $25.00 hourly.

The candidate will work with specialized diagnostic equipment, read detailed repair manuals, and ensure all repairs meet Tamron quality standards. A strong mechanical background and precision skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of technical repair experience preferred.
• Experience repairing cameras, optics, electronics, or precision instruments is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hand-eye coordination essential.
• Proficiency with small hand tools and precision measuring equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and troubleshoot photographic lenses submitted for repair.
• Use diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and optical issues.
• Read repair manuals and follow procedures.
• Disassemble lenses to inspect components.
• Replace defective parts and reassemble to factory specs.
• Clean, calibrate, and test repaired lenses with precision equipment.
• Verify repairs meet Tamron quality standards before returning to customers.
• Maintain an average output of 3-5 lenses per day with redo rate below 3%.
• Support the team goal of a three-day repair turnaround.
• Serve as a technical resource for Customer Service.

What You’ll Do

As a Repair Technician, you’ll become an expert in Tamron optical products by:

• Inspecting and troubleshooting photographic lenses submitted for repair
• Using specialized diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and optical issues
• Reading repair manuals and following detailed repair procedures
• Carefully disassembling lenses to inspect internal components
• Replacing defective parts and reassembling products to factory specifications
• Cleaning, calibrating, and testing repaired lenses using precision equipment
• Verifying all repairs meet Tamron quality standards before returning products to customers
• Maintaining an average repair output of 3-5 lenses per day while achieving a redo rate below 3%
• Supporting the team's goal of a three-day repair turnaround
• Serving as a technical resource for our Customer Service department
• Performing additional duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of two years of technical repair experience
• Experience repairing cameras, optics, electronics, medical devices, precision instruments, or similar equipment is preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent hand-eye coordination
• Ability to use small hand tools and precision measuring equipment
• Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Physical Requirements

This position requires excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail. Employees spend much of the day performing intricate repairs while seated at a workstation.

Requirements include:

• Continuous use of hands and fingers for precision work
• Excellent close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to focus on fine details
• Ability to work in low-light environments when required
• Frequently lifting and moving items weighing up to 25 pounds
