Job summary

The City of Lansing is seeking a Community Development Coordinator to support housing, real estate, and economic development initiatives. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to navigate complex regulations and prepare grant-related documents.

You will manage multiple projects, coordinate with government agencies and community partners, and help draft reports and resolutions for City Council actions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience considered.
• Training in real estate, construction, or related field.
• 5 years professional experience including CDBG program involvement in planning and development.
• 2 years supervisory experience preferred within a state or local government setting.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversees acquisition, demolition, marketing, and disposition of real property for development and community benefits.
• Plans work, supervises staff, and participates in hiring, evaluating, and disciplining subordinates.
• Prepares staff reports and resolutions for City Council action.
• Operates grant-funded homebuyer assistance programs; issues and manages mortgage loans, liens and related funds.
• Drafts deeds, mortgages, licenses, easements, liens, leases, and other legal documents.
• Develops and maintains operating procedures compliant with funding sources and guidelines.
• Obtains appraisals, surveys, environmental reports, and title commitments; verifies legal descriptions.
• Negotiates purchase, sale, or lease of real property with regulatory compliance.
• Conducts and/or supervises state/federal relocation activities as required.
• Provides direction and coordination to Development Division staff.
• Conducts field inspections or coordinates with Building Safety/Code Compliance.
• Participates in preparation of CAPER and other federal reports.
