Job summary

Duke Energy Florida is seeking a Solar Tech II to support multiple PV plant sites across the service territory, performing troubleshooting, start-up support, and equipment modifications to ensure reliable operation.

Job Summary

The Solar Tech is primarily responsible for providing support to multiple PV plant sites located throughout Duke Energy Florida's service territory on a continual/on-demand basis, in order to troubleshoot/resolve equipment issues such as emergency repairs, design change requirements, and equipment modifications and to establish O&M support for new plant(s) start-up as well as long term operation and maintenance. Role will include work scheduling, maintenance, equipment installation, and start-up support. Position will also be responsible for supporting existing equipment performance and reliability, work to support equipment testing schedules and assigning contracts, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality.

Responsibilities And Duties

Troubleshoot, resolve equipment issues - 30%

Design change requirements, and equipment modifications - 15%

Scheduling maintenance, installation, and start-up support. Position will also be responsible for supporting existing equipment performance and reliability - 15%

Support equipment testing schedules and assigning contract testers, technicians, and engineers to appropriate tasks while developing processes to improve O&M output quality - 15%

Ensures compliance with all operational, environmental and other regulatory and policy compliance requirements. Monitors station environmental, health and safety objectives and ensures they are met - 10%

Provides leadership and accountability in order to achieve desired safety results (Lock Out Tag Out compliance, safety meeting attendance, contractor oversight, safety policies/procedures, work practices, etc.) - 15%

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Non-comparative (e.g. three years' experience in a particular position, rather than a comparative requirement such as being one of the top five among the candidates in years of experience)
• Objective (e.g. a Bachelor's degree in accounting, but not a technical degree from a "good school")
• Job-related (Relevant to performance of the particular position)

You must be able to determine if someone meets the basic / required qualifications for a position by simply reviewing that individual’s application or resume. Include what a new employee needs to successfully perform the required responsibilities and duties, such as:

• Education/Degree - High School, Associate, Bachelor, Master: High School Diploma or GED
• Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree NA
• Years of prior equivalent work related experience in addition to a degree: 1-3 years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience.
• Licenses, certifications or registrations: Successful completion of the MASS test, must have and maintain a valid driver's license
• Job-specific knowledge, skills or abilities: Strong interpersonal skills; Excellent communication skills both oral and written; Able to troubleshoot and solve problems; Ability to work independently; familiar with electrical test and measuring equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years technical training or military training in electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems
• Working knowledge of power distribution systems
• Previous experience working with inverters, electrical design, Maximo CMMS, centralized SCADA/EMS control systems and associated network devices;
• knowledge of National Electrical Code
• 5 or more years of electrical maintenance or Solar PV Systems experience.

Working Conditions

Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends and maintain flexibility as plant conditions and events require. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as a hardhat, steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses, arc clash protective gear. Must be able to work around rotating equipment, in extreme heat/cold, electromagnetic fields, be able to climb, crawl, kneel, stand, sit and walk.
