Job summary

Mission Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare, in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Nurse Extern (PRN) to gain hands-on experience while supporting the nursing team. The role focuses on safe, compassionate patient care under supervision, with opportunities to advance as you progress through your nursing program.

You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound care, documentation, and patient education in a collaborative hospital setting.

Qualifications

• CNA certification and BLS required or in progress
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program (NC CNA not specified in full)
• Commitment to gaining hands-on experience in the RN role

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitor vital signs, support mobility, and ensure comfort and hygiene
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic nursing procedures as competency grows
• Document care accurately and communicate updates to the nursing team
• Explain care plans to patients and families and assist with recovery guidance
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and adhere to infection prevention practices
• Engage in learning opportunities and collaborate with supervisor to build a career development plan
