Job summary

The Hartford, an established insurance company, seeks an Associate Staff Attorney to join its Workers’ Compensation group in California. This role offers mentorship, hands-on litigation experience, and a supportive environment for early-career attorneys.

Candidates will assist in various workers’ compensation defense matters, engaging in case strategy and legal research. The position is primarily remote with occasional travel around Los Angeles County, focusing on areas like Van Nuys and Marina Del Rey.

Qualifications

Legal internship, law clerkship, or early-career litigation experience preferred.
Familiarity with workers’ compensation or insurance-related litigation is a plus.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and grow toward independent case handling.

Responsibilities

Assist in handling California workers’ compensation defense matters under senior attorneys.
Support case strategy development through factual investigation and legal research.
Draft pleadings, discovery responses, motions, and petitions.
Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trials.
Communicate case status and legal analysis to Claims Partners.
Coordinate with opposing counsel and WCAB staff.
Participate in team huddles and case strategy discussions.
Maintain compliance with continuing legal education requirements.
